Fiberglass Combo Mat

This fiberglass composite reinforcement combines one layer of woven roving with one layer of chopped strand mat. The layers are joined by zigzag stitching to create an integral, high-strength product.

By combining two fiber structures, combo mat delivers very high strength. Spaces between the fibers promote resin flow, more uniform distribution, and better interlaminar bonding. Other benefits include fewer lay-up steps, faster production, a lower risk of delamination, and improved surface quality.

Combo mat is available in basis weights from 600 to 1,050 g/m² and widths from 10 to 300 cm.

Applications:

GRP Pipe and Tank Manufacturing: Combo mat is a strategic material in filament-winding and continuous-molding pipe plants:

  • Composite water and wastewater transmission pipes: Strip combo mat simultaneously builds thickness through its chopped-strand component and high tensile strength through its woven-roving component.
  • Large double-wall and underground tanks: Rapid lamination of fuel- and acid-tank bodies that require substantial thickness and high physical resistance to soil pressure.
  • Pipe fittings: Speeds up the manual lay-up of GRP elbows, tees, and flanges.

Marine and Shipbuilding Industries: The bodies of large vessels require very thick laminates, making combo mat the best option for boat- and shipbuilding workshops:

  • Lamination of hulls and bottoms for ships and speedboats: Cuts production time in half because each placement simultaneously applies two layers—the chopped-strand and woven-roving layers—to the hull.
  • Decks and composite breakwaters: Provides exceptional resistance to continuous wave impact and prevents fiberglass delamination.

Heavy-Industry and Automotive Body Components: For large components manufactured by semi-automated processes such as resin transfer molding (RTM):

  • Train, metro, and bus body components: Manufacture of one-piece roofs, walls, and train nose sections requiring uniform resin distribution and mechanical strength.
  • Small and medium wind-turbine blades: Manufacture of blade bodies with an integrated structure that does not separate under intense wind vibration.

Construction and Prefabricated Panels:

  • Sandwich panels and prefabricated composite walls: Used as a reinforcement layer over insulating foams.
  • Heavy-duty cladding sheets: Manufacture of thick industrial fiberglass sheets for factory and warehouse roofs.
